About Matthew Ash

Matthew is an experienced musician and educator with a passion for performing and teaching, based in Belper (Derbyshire).

Matthew has wide-ranging experience as a recital and concerto soloist, accompanist, chamber music partner and repetiteur. He has worked with instrumentalists, singers, choirs, in music theatre and in opera rehearsals. 

Matthew is currently accompanist to The Kitchen Chorus, in Little Eaton, and is available for any role a pianist might undertake, from accompanying graded music examinations all the way to recital and concerto performances.

Matthew studied piano with Katrina George and Marjorie Clementi before completing BMus(Hons) and MMus music degrees at Lancaster University. During this time Matthew enjoyed further training with Andrew West and John Clegg, and was awarded the Denis McCaldin Performance Prize for his final recital.

Matthew has also written for Pianist magazine, sits on the panel for the Pianist composing competition each year, and works in the recorded music industry, including writing editorial on new releases. Matthew is a member of the ISM (Independent Society of Musicians) and Musicians Union.
